Being from the island of Guam is something that is very dear to me. My name is Khris and I was born and raised on Guam up until it was time to serve my country. I love absolutely everything about the island I mean, who doesn’t? From sunny skies and beautiful beaches to great hospitality and delicious cuisines, there was always something fun to do with great company no matter the time of day or night.
This isn’t your typical travel guide but rather a platform where anyone can share their experience for the world to see and learn what Guam has to offer instead of being known as just a mini “Hawaii,” not that anything is wrong with Hawaii but they merely resemble as far as climate and geographical characteristics.
A Little Back Story
Growing up I have never left the island, not even to Coco’s Island which is a short boat ride at the southern tip of Guam to a secluded island, or even to the Northern Mariana Islands. It wasn’t until I graduated high school where I made the choice to serve my country and see the world with my own eyes and then began my journey. However, I have not visted a numerous amount of places outside the country but mainly famous cities amid the United States. Being in the mainland, I was introduced to many new people and the topic of “where are you from?” would arise as casual as it would be with no hesitation. Almost every time I told a person I was from Guam, there would be some kind of shock or sense of interest because they’ve never heard of such a place existed, or knew it did but also knew absolutely nothing about it.
Of course being polite I would further explain where it is located and what the island life is like but then more questions of interest would spring and as proud as I am being Chamorro, would be delightfully endulge in giving them the best sense of what it was like to be there.
Giving Back to the World
I became inspired by a mentor/role model of mine in that he expressed the importance of giving back, whether it be to the community or to the world, it became imporatant to me in that it is nonetheless a great deal of selflessness. Through shared experiences and pictures, not only myself but anyone can contribute to give back to the world so they can see how great it is.
What I’m giving to the world is an oppurtunity to expand their horizons beyond what they think or know about this beautiful island so that they have an idea of place as just as beautiful as any other island in the Pacific. And with a blessing, I was given the honor from various local photographers to display their work as means to show the true beauty Guam holds.
